Veteran NBA guard Terry Rozier will stand trial on February 8, 2027, following a procedural hearing at a Brooklyn federal courthouse. The former Charlotte Hornets player entered a not guilty plea to newly unsealed charges related to sports betting and wire fraud.

Expanded Indictment and Co-Defendants

A grand jury added honest services wire fraud conspiracy and bribery in sporting contests to Rozier’s existing counts of wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy. Rozier appeared alongside three co-defendants: Eric Earnest, Shane Hennen, and Deniro Laster. US District Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall scheduled the trial during the Wednesday status conference. Prosecutors allege Rozier shared information about his potential early departure from a game with Laster, a childhood friend. Laster reportedly relayed the tip to a betting group to influence wagering outcomes.

Procedural Rulings and Defense Position

Judge Hall referenced the NBA repeatedly during proceedings and maintained a no-contact order under the 1984 Bail Reform Act. The order currently bars Rozier from communicating with the NBA and the Hornets, though the Miami Heat were removed from the list after his 2024 trade. Assistant US Attorney Kaitlin Farrell noted the restriction follows standard bail conditions. Defense attorney Jim Trusty stated that Rozier maintains a firm perspective despite the expanded indictment. Rozier was drafted in 2015 and became a free agent after the Miami Heat released him in April. The defense intends to contest all allegations as the case moves toward the 2027 trial date.
