NBA guard Terry Rozier will stand trial on February 8, 2027, following a procedural hearing at a Brooklyn federal courthouse. US District Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall set the date while reviewing newly filed charges related to sports betting fraud.
Charges and Allegations
Rozier pleaded not guilty to additional counts of honest services wire fraud conspiracy and bribery in sporting contests. The superseding indictment, unsealed in late May, also names Eric Earnest, Shane Hennen, and Deniro Laster. Prosecutors allege Rozier shared details about his potential early departure from a game with Laster, a childhood friend. Laster reportedly relayed this information to a group of bettors to influence the outcome of specific wagering props.Procedural Details and Legal Standing
During the status conference, Judge Hall referenced the NBA repeatedly while addressing procedural matters. A magistrate judge previously issued a no-contact list in December under the 1984 Bail Reform Act. The order operates as a standard condition designed to prevent defendants from communicating with alleged victims or witnesses. The Miami Heat were removed from the restricted list, but the NBA and the Charlotte Hornets remain included.Rozier entered the league as a first-round selection in the 2015 NBA Draft, was traded to Miami in 2024, and released in April. He currently holds free agent status. His legal team maintains that the guard remains focused on the proceedings.
Attorney Jim Trusty stated: "He’s strong now, he’ll be strong when his day of exoneration comes. We’ll fight whoever is going to come at us."
