The Nevada Gaming Control Board released its annual abstract report for fiscal year 2025 on Wednesday, detailing financial performance for state licensees. The data indicates a sharp decline in profitability for Las Vegas Strip casinos during the period ending June 30, 2025.
Combined net profits for Strip casinos fell 81% year-over-year to $154.2 million against total revenue of $21 billion. Gaming revenue reached $5.5 billion, resulting in a net profit margin of 2.8% on gaming operations and 0.7% on total revenue. The report covers 51 licensees that generated at least $1 million in gross gaming revenue.
Total liabilities for the group, including long-term debt, amounted to $50.7 billion. Interest expenses exceeded $2.2 billion for the fiscal year. Both average return on invested capital and return on average assets remained below 4%.
Market Activity and Outlook
Two major acquisition proposals are currently under review. Tilman Fertitta, owner of Golden Nugget Casinos, offered $31 per share to acquire Caesars Entertainment, a deal valued at $17.6 billion including $12 billion in assumed debt. The go-shop period for this transaction concludes on July 11. Additionally, Barry Diller, the largest shareholder of MGM Resorts, submitted an $18 billion takeover offer for the company.
Gross gaming revenue has shown positive growth in three of the four reported months this year, including April figures. However, tourism levels remain below previous peaks, with reduced international traffic from Canada and the cessation of Spirit Airlines operations affecting domestic travel. The Oakland Athletics are constructing a new stadium on the Strip scheduled to open for the 2028 season.
