The Santiago Court of Appeal has ordered Chilean telecom providers to implement DNS filtering for unlicensed online casino websites. The ruling introduces a dedicated verification procedure to prevent licensed gambling platforms from being restricted.
Verification and Implementation Process
Official lottery organizations, including Lotería de Concepción and Polla Chilena de Beneficencia, will submit suspicious domain names to the SCJ for review. The regulatory body examines each submission to confirm whether the website operates without authorization and offers betting or gambling services. Verified domains are then forwarded to SUBTEL, the national telecommunications authority. SUBTEL distributes the block list to internet service providers, which apply the DNS restrictions and submit compliance reports to the judiciary. Government agencies will also monitor mirror domains that attempt to bypass the initial filtering. This framework follows a September 2025 Supreme Court decision requiring telecommunications companies to restrict access to unauthorized online gambling platforms.
