Allwyn has named Dr Michael Auer and Newton University as the inaugural recipients of the Player Protection Lab award on July 31, 2026. The lottery-led gaming company will allocate up to €100,000 in funding to the two winning research projects focused on player safety.
Selected Research Initiatives
Dr Michael Auer’s study examines personalized communication designed to promote safer gambling habits. The psychologist and statistician will analyze real-world player data alongside self-reported information to measure how targeted messages influence spending patterns, limit adjustments, and session breaks. Newton University, a Czech educational institution, will build the Safe Gambling Assessment Tool. This instrument will evaluate responsible gaming metrics specifically adapted to the digital interaction patterns of Generation Z.The Player Protection Lab launched in September 2025 to finance independent academic work across digital innovation, behavioral messaging, and safety tool development. Allwyn’s Responsible Gaming Department reviewed the proposals before selecting the two recipients. The funded studies support the company’s eNective framework, which applies evidence-based methods to player protection programs.
